While the first installment of our Remote Skills Academy may be over, the learnings, excitement and momentum gained from this experience are only beginning to crystallize. At Livit, we’ve been coaching and training online on a variety of topics both internally and externally for many years now. But this was our first time launching and teaching a lengthier, fully virtual course (and for some of us, our first time organizing a virtual event!).
Joined by over 20 future remote work stars across Indonesia who come from various backgrounds, Virtual Assistance Course was a 3-week online project under the Remote Skills Academy umbrella by Livit. Our goal was to provide an opportunity for Indonesians to develop basic skills that are useful in remote and virtual assistance work, which was needed especially in times when so many Indonesians (and especially Balinese) have lost their jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Through this course, not only did we mentor and guide them in going through remote work platforms, but also empowered them to have a career as a kick-ass virtual assistant or location-independent worker.
Running from April 14th to April 30th at 14:30 p.m to 5:00 p.m. via Zoom, the course kicked off with an introduction session where we introduced the mentor for this course, Evina Yosiardi, who is an incredible tech virtual assistant that works with clients from all over the world.
Evina was not alone. She was accompanied by a few amazing guest trainers from Livit: Agnieszka Krzysztofowicz, Johanes Raymond, Lavinia Iosub, Ni Luh Putu Yuniari, and Dewi Dhyana Sari. Some of them have been working remotely for 10+ years.
During the course, the participants had the opportunity to dig deep in all things virtual assistance and remote work, from using handy tools to a variety of topics such as:
- Basic Admin 101
- Social Media
- Email Marketing
- Basic Web Management
- Social Graphics & Captions
- Content Repurposing
- How To Sell Your Services
- Working With A Client
- Virtual Assistance Legal Issues
We were thrilled to see the participants actively engaging in the course every day, and doing their assignments very well! They took away a lot of knowledge about remote work and virtual assistance. This course also fostered a growing awareness of remote work, which is not taught in the Indonesian education system.
Watch what the participants said about the course here!
At the end of the course, those who qualified were awarded certificates. The criteria was tough: the participants had to hit 90% attendance for the teaching sessions, workshops and assignments in order to get the certificate. And 75% (15) of them did it!
We ended the course with an online graduation ceremony (we wish we could do it on our beautiful rooftop at Livit Hub though, but we took physical distancing very seriously 😀 ). We invited Lydia Lee, a work reinvention strategist and founder of Screw The Cubicle, one of our beloved collaborators, to motivate the participants in pursuing their dreams.
We’re terribly excited for everyone who went through the course and we look forward to keeping in touch with them and seeing how their remote careers develop!
As for ourselves, we’re now back to the drawing board planning the next modules for the Remote Skills Academy, so we can continue opening up a new world of work opportunities for Indonesians. Hints: project management, online business management anyone? 😉
